Leprosy:

Leprosy is an infectious disease of the skin and nervous system. It is a very harmful disease. If the patient does not go under any medical treatment, it will lead to blindness and disability.

Bacterial disease:

Leprosy is a bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. It is a bacterial disease of skin and nerve.

Curable disease:

Leprosy is an entirely treatable disease. The treatment for this disease required six months to 1 year. It is a multi-drug treatment. People in backward areas are not familiar with the illness, so they do late in seeking help or treatment, which causes disability of the whole lifetime.

Leprosy as disabling disease:

As leprosy is a skin and nerve disease, this damages the sense of that body part after its treatment, which means that if you have gone through surgery and your condition is cured, you will not feel any pain affecting the area. If your feet will be cut or your hand will be burn.

Symptoms: 

The symptoms take at least 3 to 5 years to be visible and to contact properly with mycobacterium. Following are some symptoms:-

  • Disfiguring of skin sore
  • Lumps
  • Bumps

Nerve damage leads to:

  • Muscle weakness
  • Loss of feeling in arms and legs

These symptom skins disfigure lumps, and bumps will not go away after several weeks or months.

Treatment of leprosy:

Leprosy is a curable disease. The treatment of leprosy depends on the type of leprosy. This is a long term treatment. The therapy required antibiotics. If leprosy is healthy, then more than one medicine is being used. The doctor uses anti-inflammatory drugs to control the nerve pain of the patient, which includes steroids. These antibiotics cannot control the nerve damage made by leprosy

A complication of disease:

If the patient does not take treatment at the right time, they can face a severe problem for a lifetime. The people have to suffer permanent damage of harm, legs, nerve, eyes, etc. following are the complications:-

  • Blindness
  • Disfigure of face
  • Disfigure of hands and legs
  • Kidney failure
  • Infertility in men
  • Muscle weakness
